We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Specialist - Legal/Paralegal to join our Corporate Services Team.
Reporting to the Senior Manager - Legal you will be an integral part of the team.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Conducting legal research and horizon scanning to ensure business is aware of upcoming laws or regulations that may impact the IPL business and considering any changes to existing practices that may be required. Highlighting areas of risk and effectively communicating the potential impact to the team and wider business as well as suggesting ways to mitigate any identified risks.
- Supporting internal training program and assisting in delivery of sessions on a variety of legal and compliance topics.
- Providing administrative support to the legal and compliance function and recording data metrics for performance analysis.
- Carrying out audits to ensure our compliance monitoring obligations are met, reporting relevant findings to BU heads and ensuring remediation actions are completed within agreed timescales .
- Triaging enquiries that come in to legal and compliance inboxes and ensuring they are allocated appropriately.
- Assisting the legal team to investigate litigation matters, including compiling supporting documents such as chronologies for employment tribunals.
- Updating precedents and document control information.
- Summarising and presenting information in new and innovative, easy to understand, ways and using technology to improve efficiency.
- Reviewing, drafting, and advising on simple commercial contracts such as supply of goods and service contracts based on IPL standard terms.
- Preparing contracts and other legal documents based on existing precedents and assisting in their negotiation to reach final agreed form.
- Assisting with contract management , contract signing and closing procedures, as well as collating and filing executed documents.
- Instructing external legal advisers on matters where support is required.
- Tracking progress of projects and more complex work streams.
- Being responsible for managing simple legal processes and recording data for further analysis in the form of results trackers and reporting any findings back to the team.
- Drafting communications to colleagues of all seniority, suppliers and other parties.
- Assisting to organise team away days and team building events.
- Monitoring GDPR/ Data privacy compliance.
- Assisting with Data Protection Impact Assessments and preparation, reviews and if necessary, updating of Records of Processing Activities.
- Engaging with other business units as appropriate, including overseas offices and Asda teams.

2+ years experience in a private practice law firm preferred
Ideally law degree or other degree (2:1 or higher) with a PGDL conversion course
Legal practice course (post graduate diploma level) at commendation or higher
