About The Role

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Specialist Accountant - Tax & Control to join the IPL Group.

You will act as the Group Specialist Accountant, reporting into the Group Financial Controller and supporting group-wide tax, reporting and financial control for IPL’s UK and Overseas operations.
 
The role will take a lead on preparing tax and regulatory reporting, supporting risk identification and mitigation, and maintaining financial control.  Ensuring, always, that the Group complies with tax and regulatory requirements, risks are understood and mitigated and that financial controls remain operational, fit for purpose and are continually enhanced.
 
Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5pm
Hybrid working is also available 

Your key responsibilities will include:
  • Business partnering with other teams and business across the Group internally and within the wider Asda Group.
Tax
  • Preparation of periodic (monthly / quarterly) VAT and Intrastat returns where the Group has filing responsibilities (UK and Overseas).
  • Maintenance of an ongoing high level issues log and identification of changes in trends in periodic VAT returns. Maintain up to date VAT return process documentation.
  • Preparation of reporting and submissions for the packaging and environmental taxes (UK and Overseas).
  • Preparation of inputs to support Asda and our external advisors in preparing Corporation Tax filings, ensuring payments are made on time (UK and Overseas)
  • Payroll: oversight tax compliance for colleagues based internationally and benefit-in-kind reporting requirements including monitoring of annual PAYE Settlement Agreements.
  • Working very closely with Asda in respect of all tax reporting required for Asda Group purposes and preparing annual SAO documentation and up to date tax risk registers.
  • Maintenance of a reporting tracker (tax and regulatory reporting) for the UK and all company overseas branches / operations.
  • Manage routine transfer pricing benchmarking reviews and transfer pricing reporting (including CBCR and Local Files).
  • Understand and regularly review customs and duty compliance and procedures, implementing periodic reviews of customs & excise processes and controls.
  • Work with customs agents to ensure agents are complying with the relevant requirements.
  • Preparing relevant balance sheet reconciliations for review, to ensure all balances are understood, adequately supported and accurate.
  • Monitoring and periodic reporting on tax audits, inquiries, other risks and provisioning.
  • Manage HMRC online account.
  • Close liaison with Asda Tax and Trade Compliance SMEs throughout, staying close to changes and horizon scanning on upcoming regulatory changes impacting taxation.
Regulatory Compliance
  • Maintaining control of routine regulatory reporting and supporting with all other ad hoc requirements.
  • Overseeing external advisors on the preparation of statutory accounts for overseas branches (where relevant).
  • Office of National Statistics (ONS) Finance Submissions for all Group entities.
  • Working closely with Asda on any reporting requirements required from time to time, and on ‘front half’ statutory reporting (e.g. carbon, emissions, and climate reporting) in the Group’s statutory accounts.
Risk Management
  • Coordinate the Enterprise Risk Management & Reporting (ERMR) quarterly reviews and maintenance of the risk register, preparing periodic reporting for review.
  • Proactively track all risk mitigating actions identified through the ERMR process.
  • Point of contact for Internal Audit on planned audits and tracking all IA actions to closure.
  • Business partnering with action owners as necessary to support.
Financial Control
  • Maintain and operate a minimum financial controls framework (RACM).
  • Monitor a financial control self-assessment process for key controls within this framework.
  • Support with the quarterly certification (e.g. SOX) as required for Asda’s controls reporting framework.
Ad Hoc
  • Support for process improvement projects / best practice working with SMEs as needed.
  • Supporting the annual external statutory audit for and drive the evolution of a more controls-based audit approach.
